Free Link QR Code Generator

By Sheraz Khan

A link QR code turns a website address into a square code that any phone camera can read. When someone scans it, their phone opens the link at once, with no typing and no searching. It is the simplest way to send people from paper to a website, and it works on posters, business cards, flyers, packaging, invoices and shop windows.

This free link QR code generator makes a code in seconds. Paste your link, watch the preview update, then download the code as a PNG or SVG. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no expiry date. The code is static, so the link you put in it stays inside the code for good, and it keeps working for as long as the page it points to stays online.

Use it for a home page, a product page, a booking page, a video, a form, a social profile or any page you want people to reach fast. If your link is long or hard to type, a QR code removes the friction. People point, scan and land exactly where you want them.

Scan this and it opens the website link.

Example: https://example.com

Scan this and it shows your text on the phone.

Example: Welcome to our cafe

Scan this and your phone joins the WiFi, no typing the password.

Example: Network: MyHomeWiFi, Password: hello123

Scan this and your contact saves to the phone.

Example: Sarah Jones, Bloom Bakery, +1 555 123 4567, sarah@bloombakery.com

Scan this and a chat opens with your message ready.

Example: +1 555 123 4567, Message: Hi, I want to order

Scan this and it opens a new email to your address.

Example: hello@example.com, Subject: Hello

Scan this and it calls the number.

Example: +1 555 123 4567

Scan this and it opens a text message to the number.

Example: +1 555 123 4567, Message: Hi there

Scan this and it opens the place on a map.

Example: 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View

Scan this and it saves the event to the calendar.

Example: Birthday Party, 25 Dec 2026, 6 PM

Scan this and it opens a Bitcoin payment with the amount ready.

Example: 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa

Scan this and it opens the payment link.

Paste your payment link. A plain number on its own will not open inside a bank app. For payments inside a bank app, use the QR code your own bank app gives you.

Example: https://example.com/pay

How to Use the Free Link QR Code Generator

Turn any web page into a code that opens it in one scan. It works for a website, a shop page, a booking form or a document link.

  1. You are on the URL tab already. If you are not, click the URL tab at the top of the tool.
  2. Paste the link in the box called Website link. Use the full address, starting with https://.
  3. Check the preview on the right. The large code updates as you type.
  4. Download the code. When it looks right, click Download PNG, print it, or share the link.

Worked example

Try it with these details:

  • Website link: https://example.com

Example QR code for https://example.com

How to make a link QR code

Follow these steps to make your first code. It takes less than a minute.

  1. Open the tool above. The URL tab is already picked for you.
  2. Paste your full website link in the box called Website link. Use the full address, starting with https://, for example https://example.com.
  3. Check the live preview on the right. It updates by itself as you type, so you can see the code change in real time.
  4. Pick a download size. 512 pixels is right for most screens. Pick 1024 pixels or the SVG download for print.
  5. Pick an error correction level. Medium is the normal choice and works for most codes. Pick High if the code will be small, printed on rough paper or partly covered by a logo.
  6. Add a caption below the code if you want one, such as Scan me or Visit our shop. It prints under the code in the PNG and SVG, so the message travels with the code.
  7. Download the code as a PNG for screens and print, or as an SVG for sharp, large prints. You can also copy the link or share the code straight from the tool.

Worked example

Here is a real example made with the tool above.

Website link: https://example.com

Download size: 512 pixels

Error correction: Medium

Result: You get a QR code that opens https://example.com when someone scans it with a phone camera.

What the code holds: https://example.com

Try it yourself. Paste the same link and you will see the same code appear in the preview above.

Why use a link QR code?

Typing a long web address is slow and error prone. One wrong letter sends people to the wrong page or nowhere at all. A link QR code removes that risk. The whole address is stored inside the code, so the scanner lands on the exact page you chose. It is faster, it avoids typos and it feels modern.

A code also works where a link cannot be clicked. Print cannot be tapped, but it can be scanned. That is why QR codes are everywhere on posters, menus, packaging and tickets. A printed link is dead text. A printed QR code is a working shortcut.

A link QR code is free and private. This generator makes the code in your browser, so your link is never sent to our server and never stored. We do not ask for your email and we do not put a watermark on the code. The code is yours, and because it is static, it never expires.

A code also looks tidy. A long link with tracking codes looks messy on a card or a poster. A small square code takes little space and looks clean. You can add a short caption under it, such as Scan to visit our shop, so people know what they get before they scan.

Where to use a link QR code

Put a link QR code on a business card so people can open your website without typing it. Put it on a flyer or poster so a passer-by can reach your offer in one scan. Put it on product packaging so a buyer can find the manual, the warranty page or the refill link. Put it on a receipt or an invoice so a customer can pay, leave a review or join a mailing list.

Shops can put one in the window to show tonight’s menu, a sale or a booking page. Estate agents can put one on a for sale board so buyers can open the listing on their phone. Teachers can put one on a handout that opens a video or a form. Event organisers can put one on a ticket or a badge that opens the schedule.

You can also put one on your resume to link to a portfolio, on a wedding invite to link to a gift list or photo page, or on a charity collection box to link to a donation page. Anywhere a printed link would help, a link QR code helps more, because people scan it instead of typing.

For ideas on other codes, try the WiFi QR code generator to share a network, the vCard QR code generator for a digital business card, and the WhatsApp QR code generator to open a chat. Our guide on how to create a QR code for free walks through the same steps for any code type.

How to print and share your link QR code

Download the code at 1024 pixels or as an SVG for print, because a bigger file stays sharp. Print it at least 2 centimetres wide for close use, like a business card, and larger for posters or signs that people scan from a distance. A code should be at least one tenth as wide as the distance people will scan it from.

Use dark code on a light background for the best contrast, and leave a quiet zone of plain space around the code, at least four modules wide on each side. Do not print a code on a busy pattern or over a photo, and do not stretch it. If the code looks squashed or faded, scanners will struggle.

Always test before you print a big run. Print one copy, open your phone camera, point it at the code and check that it opens the right page. Test in normal light and check that the code still scans if the paper is a little creased. If it scans on your phone, it will scan on others.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not use a link without https:// at the start. A link like example.com with no scheme may not open in every browser, so always paste the full address. Do not point the code at a page that moves or gets deleted, because a static code cannot be edited after you print it. If the page must change, use a short redirect link you control, so you can change where it points later.

Do not make the code too small for its distance. A tiny code on a billboard will not scan from the road. Do not hide the code behind a logo that is too large. Keep the logo small, in the middle, and use a high error correction level so the code still reads. Do not forget the caption. People are far more likely to scan a code when a short line tells them what they will get.

Finally, do not skip the test scan. A code that was never tested can fail on a customer’s phone and cost you a visit, a sale or a booking. Test the printed code, not only the version on your screen.

FAQs

Is this link QR code generator free?

Yes, it is free from the first code to the hundredth. No account, no trial clock, no watermark, and no cap on how many links you turn into codes.

Does a link QR code expire?

No. The link is baked into the code, so it opens that page for as long as the page itself stays live. The code does not switch off after a month or a year; only taking the page down stops it working.

Can I change the link after I print the code?

No. A static code holds the link inside it, so it cannot be edited after printing. If the link might change, use a short redirect link that you control, or print a new code. Our guide on static vs dynamic QR codes explains the difference.

Will it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, on both. Point an iPhone camera at the code and tap the link banner that pops up. On Android, the camera or Google Lens does the same job with no extra download.

What size should I download?

Match the file to where it will live. A 512 pixel PNG is enough for screens and chat apps. For a poster, a card, or a window, download the SVG or the 1024 pixel PNG, because it stays crisp when printed large.

Can I add my logo to a link QR code?

Yes. Add your mark through the logo upload above, or build a branded version in our logo QR code generator. Keep the mark small and centred, and pick the High error correction level so phones still read the code around it.
